TRIBUTES have been paid to a popular teenage schoolboy killed in a car crash.
Christopher Dale, 15, was hit by a car as he walked across a main road in Oldham. Police confirmed that he suffered serious, multiple injuries and was pronounced dead later at the Royal Oldham Hospital.
In a statement Christopher’s family said: “We are devastated at the loss of Chris.
“He was a wonderful son and brother who will be very much missed by all who knew him.”
A mass of floral tributes metres wide have been placed at the scene of the collision on Lees Road. Notes from the youngster’s heartbroken friends were placed among the flowers.
One message read: “Daley, miss you man. For all the great times, I don’t think I’ve recently had such a good friend.” Another read, “Sorry this had to happen to you Daley. God bless you, all our love.”
One group of friends left the simple message ‘you will live in our hearts forever’, while another pal left a picture of Christopher and former United star Ole Gunnar Solksjaer with the note, “I remember you saying this was one of the best moments of your life. I’m so glad I could share it with you mate.”
Christopher was a year 10 pupil at the Blue Coat School on Egerton Street, Oldham. He lived locally. A number of his close friends wept as they gathered near the site on grass at the roadside near the road’s junction with Wellyhole Street.
Friends have also been paying tribute to him on a site set up in his memory on the social networking site Facebook. One said: “RIP Chris. A life taken too soon. My condolences to your family.” Another friend posted: “This is so sad, so sudden and so shocking.” A third friend added: “RIP Chris. I will really miss you.”
Police and paramedics were called to Lees Road at around 10.15pm on Saturday night. It is understood that Chris was struck by the car, a Mini Cooper, as he walked across the road.
A police spokesman said: “Officers attended and discovered a Mini Cooper had collided with a 15-year-old pedestrian who had been crossing the road near the junction with Wellyhole Street.
“The boy suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Royal Oldham Hospital, where he died.”
The driver stopped at the scene. Police today launched an appeal for witnesses to come forward. Anyone with information should call the Road Policing Unit on 0161 856 8473.
All at Latics Driver Training send their most sincere condolences to Christopher’s family.
